“Swarm, Ocean!”
Today’s episode of Holy Ghost Stories enters Genesis 1:20-23 and once again, Eugene Peterson’s rendering wins the day:
God spoke: “Swarm, Ocean, with fish and all sea life!
Birds, fly through the sky over Earth!”
God created the huge whales,
all the swarm of life in the waters,
And every kind and species of flying birds.
God saw that it was good.
God blessed them: “Prosper! Reproduce! Fill Ocean!
Birds, reproduce on Earth!”
It was evening, it was morning—
Day Five.
We’ll get to birds next time. For now, our eye is on the sea.
I’ll begin by saying this episode (much like others—all of the others?—in this series) is an exercise in futility. How do you adequately communicate the unspeakable myriad of wonders that happened when Yahweh filled the ocean with sealife?
You don’t.
But that doesn’t mean you don’t try. :) And wow, was it fun to try.
Meet the Cast
In this episode, you’ll encounter quite a few sea creatures. Here are the first three:
Must Watch
Have you seen the Blue Planet series? An absolute wonder. It’s on one or two streaming platforms at the moment, but not the big ones. But you can enjoy an hour of its 4K footage for free on the BBC’s YouTube. You’re welcome!
LISTEN
If I kept on sharing stuff related to ocean creatures, I suppose I wouldn’t know where to stop, so I’ll go ahead and leave you with a link to listen to this part of the series. I do hope it blesses you.
